Petroglyphs Provincial Park
Petroglyphs Provincial Park was one of our stops on our quick but adventurous vacation.
Peterborough has the largest known concentration of Aboriginal rock carvings Ontario. The spiritual art was carved into a particular white lime stone (marble) rock face that is found nowhere else in Canada. There are in excess of 900 Petroglyphs including snakes, birds, animals, boats, and various mythical creatures, many of which remain a mystery as much of the history of the native peoples was passed down orally.
It was not a strenuous adventure that required running shoes or climbing gear but it was certainly an adventure my 81 year old mother, 14 year old son, and I could enjoy together.
