Hobbies: bug hunting, weird drawings, going to the cottage, hiking, “finding the skins from bugs after they left them on the rocks”, metal detecting with my dad, my bottle collection, dinosaurs and fossil collecting, snakes and spiders...
- Q: What do you want to talk about today?
- A: I want to talk about spiders today, and my name is Justin. Some spiders are poisonous and some aren’t.
- Q: Have you ever seen a poisonous spider?
- A: Yes. In the woods. I saw a Black Widow and I also saw a non-poisonous one. The not poisonous one was a little spider. I do not know the name because it was a weird one. It was the littlest one in the world. I do not know if the little one was a baby Widow or something else.
- Q: What did the Black Widow look like?
- A: It was black with a red thing in the middle and it had six eyes and it had eight legs.
- Q: Do all spiders have eight legs?
- A: Yes they do. That’s how you know it’s a spider. All insects have six or 10 legs.
- Q: Where was it in the woods?
- A: In the middle of the woods. it was inside a log. I looked inside the log and it was a Widow feeding her babies.
- Q: How many babies were there?
- A: There was about nine or ten. They looked like the mommy except they were skinny, a darker black and littler than their mommy. ...breaks into song... “they were a darker black, a darker black, a darker black, darker, darker, darker, a darker black....”
- Q: Were you afraid?
- A: Ahhhhh yes! I started running and running and running, faster than I usually run!
- Q: Why were you afraid?
- A: I was scared because they’re poisonous and they have big fangs. They might bite me. I could get sick and maybe die or something. And then the babies would come and climb in my mouth to eat my guts. I saw it on TV once! That really could happen! It really could! They might start breeding babies and then I’d turn into a spider.
- Q: What do Black Widows normally eat?
- A: Flies and other bugs, bumble bees, and sometimes other spiders.
- Q: Are there many other kinds of spiders in the woods?
- A: Yes, there can be 3000 other kinds. Daddy Long Legs are in the woods but they are not spiders.They have only 6 legs so they are bugs.
- Q: What good do spiders do?
- A: All they do is eat flies and make spider webs. And eat other spiders if they are Widows.
- Q: What do you like about spiders?
- A: I like them because they’re mean. I like mean and good creatures. I guess I like them because they’re cool.
